HOW THE
CONTEST WORKS
PHASE 1
This is an 8 week entry
period. During this phase, the venue will be responsible for judging the
singers (Karaoke Host/Bartender or Manager). The singers will be judged on
three categories: Vocal Talent, Stage Presence, and Audience Reaction. All
of the winners from each week will return to the venue for the Semi-Finals
Competition. We will contact all of the contestants to remind them about
Semi-Finals.
This is a Last Man
Standing Contest. What this means is the contestants will not know what
their song will be until their name is called and they draw their song.
Each contestant will select a song and give the entry form to the karaoke
host. The karaoke host will then cut the slip in half and shuffle the
songs. When the host calls each singer to the microphone they will then
draw a song. Whatever song the singer draws is what they will be required
to perform.
PHASE 2 -
Semi-Finals Night
Semi-Finals Week. Every
participating venue will have their semi-finals night on the same week.
Contestants are allowed to enter and qualify at more than one venue (So they
can increase their chances of qualifying for finals night). The winners at
each Semi-Finals night will move forward to Finals Night. The number of
Finalists from each venue will vary.
This phase requires a
little more skill and a little less luck to qualify. We will post a list of
possible songs that are in the drawing online a week prior. Every Venue
has 2 format options:
Semi-Finals Song List
Option 1: All of the
Semi-Finalists will be split into 2 teams. As the host draws the songs…the
teams will decide which team member will sing the song. Each contestant
will still be judged individually.
Option 2:
Much simpler…no teams. Contestants will be selected randomly. They will
draw a song and perform whatever they draw. Contestants can review the
list of possible songs online one week prior to semi-finals week.
PHASE 3 -
Finals Night
Finals Night for this contest will be in Old City at Triumph Brewing
Company.
Round 1 will work the
same way as Phase 1 works. The top singers will move forward to Round 2.
One singer will be eliminated after Round 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6. When there are
only two contestants left, each contestant will pick a song for their
opponent. Whoever wins that battle will win the $1000 prize.
Tips For Contestants
All contestants are welcome to enter at any of
the locations and qualify for any of the semi-finals nights. In fact
we encourage it to increase your chances at making it to finals night.
You will be judged on 3 categories:
-
Vocal Ability - We would recommend you
sing a song that means something to you. Sing with Feeling...and we
will judge you on your tone accuracy (Compared to the original)
-
Stage Presence - Don't just stare at the
screen. Walk around a little. Sing to people. Memorize the words
or most of them. If you are able to get the audience excited...you
will do great with the audience score.
-
Audience Participation/Applause - Try to
sing a song the audience will know. You get more points in this round
if people are clapping, dancing, singing along, etc...
